Reflecting On 2018 And My Goals For 2019

I always feel like the start of the year is the perfect time to reflect on last year’s achievements and to set some new goals. I’ve ordered a Goals Diary from Busy B which I’m hoping will keep me on track with this year’s plans and make it easy to reflect on what I’ve achieved at the end of the year.

Reflecting on 2018

Starting a new job

One of the goals was to find a new job, which I did! I absolutely love my job and I feel like I’ve learned so much through it. The job market was pretty tough last year and it felt like it took ages to find a job, usually just missing out to someone who had slightly more experience. But I’m glad I missed out on all the others as I feel like my current job was a much better fit. If you’re looking for a new role this year, stay positive! You’re prefect job is out there it might just take a little while to find it.

Visiting London

I headed down to London in May, which was my first time ever visiting the capital (shocking, I know!). We were pretty lucky and were there when there was a bit of heatwave. I absolutely loved London and can’t wait to get back down at some point. We went to see Matilda at the theatre which was amazing and, something I never imagined I’d say, went to watch the wrestling which was on over three days – also amazing! I’ve become a little bit of a wrestling fan since my boyfriend introduced me to it. I also had a great time exploring London and seeing some of the tourist spots such as Camden market and Buckingham palace.

I graduated with my Master’s degree which I’m super happy about. If you read my Reflecting on 2017 and Goals for 2018 post then you’ll know that I took a little longer to graduate due to failing an exam. However, like I said in that post the benefit was it was during the summer and I managed to get some great pictures.

Going to Cyprus

If you follow me on Instagram then you’ll probably have seen a lot of pictures from Cyprus, especially sunset pictures, as the sunsets there were just spectacular.  This was the first trip abroad that my boyfriend and I went on and it was great to spend some time just chilling out and trying some amazing food. If you ever have the chance to visit Cyprus, you have to try the halloumi, baklava and Cyprus coffee as it’s much tastier than what you can buy here.

Moving out

Although commuting to my job gave me plenty of time to read, it certainly wasn’t going to be sustainable in the long run. On the plus side, it now means that I live in the wonderful city of Edinburgh in flat with an amazing view of the city skyline.

Goals for 2019

I’ve decided to try the Goodreads reading challenge again, this time setting my goal at 40 books. I set it a little high last year at 50 so I wanted to be a little more realistic while still making it a challenge. I currently have a ton of books on my ‘to read pile’ which I’m hoping to get through soon. I’m currently reading one of my Christmas presents, A Christmas Carol and other Christmas Writings, which I am loving and I’m really surprised that I hadn’t read any Dickens until now.

Join a Gym

This is something I’ve been saying that I’m going to do since I moved and still haven’t got round to doing it. I really enjoyed spending time at the gym and keeping fit but I’ve been finding it hard to get back into the routine of going but I’m hoping that now that I’ve settle into my new flat and that most of the gyms have offers on I have no excuse not to be there a few times a week.

Save More

I do try to save money regularly but I feel that now that I’ve moved out and have to pay rent etc. that I need to start saving a little more and think about the future. I’ve now opened a Lifetime ISA so that I can start saving towards my own home – which I’m probably still a few years from being able to do. I also have my eye on a couple of designer bags and I would love to be able to buy at least one this year.

Travel More

I would love to go on a few more trips this year, both at home and abroad. We are currently planning to visit Berlin for my boyfriend’s birthday but I would like to try and get a couple of other trips in this year too. I would love to visit Copenhagen or Reykjavik. And closer to home it’d be great to go to Skye, the Hebrides and of course, London again.
