I decided a while back to go into Boots and try No7’s foundation match service, to see what all the fuss was about. I was finding my regular foundations a little warm for my winter/spring skin and wanted to find out what shade they would recommend. The process was really quick, a little of your foundation is removed (don’t worry they fix this after!) so that the device can be placed against the skin. The device reads information about your skin and suggests which foundation should match your skin.
I was matched to the shade Calico which is the lightest shade that they have. I decided to pick up two foundations as there was an offer on at the time so I picked up their Instant Radiance Foundation and their Stay Perfect Foundation (which I’ll talk about another time).
No7 Instant Radiance Foundation aims to make tired and stressed skin appear more bright and radiant. The foundation contains ginger extract and a vitamin complex which helps the appearance of skin. It also contains violet pearls, which seems to just be a violet shimmer, and can be seen in the bottle if held in the light a particular way. I find that this isn’t noticeable on skin so there’s no need to fear that you’ll look purple! The reason for using a violet colour is that purple has a brightening effect and therefore helps to make your skin appear more radiant.
I really like the formula of this foundation and find it to be quite thick and I find that a little goes along way. It recommends that you use fingers or a sponge to apply it but I think it looks best when I apply it with my Real Techniques Stippling Brush. I have applied it my fingers to test it fully and find that it also applies well like this but still think it applies best with the brush. The foundation blends really well into the skin and I find feels nice a light on the skin.
I find that it provides a medium coverage and doesn’t cling to any dry areas of skin. I think if you want a gorgeous dewy foundation but perhaps find the Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation a tad to glowy then this will be prefect for you. No7 Instant Radiance Foundation last all day without needing to be touched up, meaning that it is the perfect foundation for everyday wear. It also claims to be hypo-allergenic meaning those with sensitive skin should be able to use it without having problems; but since my skin is not overly sensitive I can’t really comment on this fully. If you do have sensitive skin it may be worth giving No7 foundations a look.
You can purchase No7 Instant Radiance Foundation for £12.50 online at Boots or in store where you can get shade checked.
